The boats are safe as houses and the author is perfectly honest in the fears, fun and lack of luxury in small yacht cruising. An Achilles sailed down from the UK to New Zealand, another has just converted for high latitude cruising (enter 'Ming Ming 2' into youtube). Buy this book
